Parquet Flooring in Malahide
Victoria made contact with us just after the Irish lockdown to book RH Wood Floors to supply and install parquet flooring in a herringbone pattern in her apartment in Malahide. She was also looking for us to give her advice on choices of wood, colours etc. We scheduled her in our diary for a free consultation with Russell. Russell measured the area where she was looking to lay parquet and went through many options of parquet flooring.
Victoria is originally from Canadia and told Russell she wanted something really natural and a wood with different tones and shades to enhance the woods characteristics. Victoria opted for a Pre-finished, Steamed Oak Parquet – this wood is beautiful. The oak parquet block goes through a process where the oak is subject to steamed ammonia that changes its colour and gives the wood a variation of tones and shades to each parquet stave.
Victoria had beautiful black and white ceramic tiles laid on the kitchen floor, we wanted to create a seamless transition from the kitchen tiles to the parquet floor. We left a 10mm gap from the tiles and filled the gap with a specialist colour matching expanding rubber.
We booked Victoria in for works a few weeks after our initial consultation to allow time to order the wood and to let the wood adjust to its new environment. We flowed the parquet floor from the entrance door right through to the living room. We suggested to Victoria to bring the herringbone pattern straight to the wall and under the skirting and to not put a boarder lay around the edges. The reason for this was to give the appearance maximize the space in the hallway and sitting room. By using no boarder it makes the space appear larger, thus maximizing visual impact. Victoria was really thrilled with how this concept transpired and she said it actually made the space appear larger.
Victoria, who is originally from a mountain area in Canadia said the floors brought her back to her childhood growing up on a farm. It is like having a piece of Canada in Malahide.
