We came into contact with Paul a few weeks back after his herringbone parquet floor needed a bit of TLC. He spent weeks saving up the money to finally get a gorgeous parquet floor installed in his sitting room. He works full time as a plumber but has always had a passion for carpentry and wood flooring.

Recently, he moved into his first house with his wife Tara in Greystones County Wicklow and things were looking up for the happy couple. Paul had the perfect family sitting room in mind with luxurious leather couches and beautifully stained furniture throughout. The only thing missing was his ideal floor. He wanted a newly installed hardwood parquet floor of some sort. In the end, he decided on a herringbone parquet floor with a double darkly stained border around it.

His wife fully supported her husbands’ vision and they finally made it happen. We have agreed not to shame the flooring company that put down their floor but this company completely botched the install. They never left enough space around the edge of the floor and the wood started expanding. A couple of the floorboards situated near the border had popped up out of place and nearly came up from the floor completely. On top of this, the floor had taken some extreme wear and tear after just a couple of months.

With the correct type and amount of varnish applied to a wood floor, it should easily last at least ten too fifteen years before it will take the damage Paul and Tara’s floor had received. When they tried to contact the company that had laid their floor, they received no answer. After a few missed calls and unopened emails, they had to take action. They planned on leaving a terrible review on Google for a start only to realise the company’s website had completely disappeared off the face of the earth. Finally, Paul received an email from the company in question that left them heartbroken. It simply stated “sorry if your floor didn’t turn out the way you hoped. We have permanently terminated the business and can no longer offer any assistance. Sorry for the inconvenience.”

After this horrible situation, they needed a new flooring company to save the day. They then turned to us after noticing our overwhelming 118 Google reviews. They told us the complete story when our flooring expert went over to give them a quote. After telling their story and even showing us the email our owner Russell decided to help them out.

They were willing to pay whatever it cost to get the floor done right but Russell had other ideas. They had touched his heart and he decided to give them the full project for half the normal price. This was a once-off occasion as realistically there is a business to run here. The floorboards were fixed and the floor was freshly sanded and varnished by the end of the week. Paul and Tara were so grateful and we were happy to help a fellow wood floor enthusiast in need.
